Career Advisor Training

The Career Advisor Training: Employability Skills will teach cover the following competencies: Demonstrate knowledge of the job-search strategies and documents and be able to communicate that knowledge to job seekers. Teach clients how to find job openings. Assist clients to prepare for effective cover letters and resumes. Teach clients how to have an effective job interview.

This module in the Career Advisor Training covers the foundational topic of helping skills. These skills are essential for forming and maintaining a supportive relationship with your clients. Objectives: Exhibit effective use of basic and culturally responsive helping skills – attending, listening, questioning, and reflecting. Conduct an effective intake interview with clients. The Career Advisor Training: Program Planning in Career Advising course teaches you how to effectively plan, deliver, and evaluate career development programs. Understand and participate in the process of program development and assist supervisors to implement assigned parts of that process. Collect information about the target populations to be served. Provide and support services offered via one-on-one advising, group work, and online delivery. Assist with promotion of the program. Assist in the collection of evaluative data about the results or acceptance of a program of services. Provide constructive feedback about needed services or improvement of existing services.

The Career Advisor Training: Using Technology in Career Planning & Advising course addresses the role of technology in career planning and examines the multitude of types that can be leveraged. Objectives: Define the role of technology in career planning. Identify sources of online career planning resources. Find and utilize online resources for further education and training. Define career planning systems. Understand the purpose of technology in career planning. Competencies Covered Technology Digital application

The Career Advisor Training: Ethical Considerations in Career Advising course addresses the vital role ethics play in career advising. Objectives: Apply a code of ethics to daily work situations by reviewing case studies. Know when and how to effectively refer clients to other individuals or agencies. Abide by the ethics of the profession. Competencies Covered: Ethical Considerations

The Career Advisor Training: Career Development and Choice Theory course addresses the foundational theories in the field of career development. Objectives: Demonstrate knowledge of the theories of Drs. Donald E. Super and John L. Holland. Apply these theories to work with clients. Organize career fairs, postsecondary majors, occupational information, job descriptions, and other materials by Holland codes.
